IAFF Local 55
International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 55 in Oakland, California, has hired Telegraph multiple times to help it respond to proposed budget cuts to the Oakland Fire Department.
Due to our advocacy, as of May 15, 2025, for the first time in a decade, every fire station in Oakland is open.

Our Approach
Proposed budget cuts would have resulted in both closed and rotating blackouts of fire stations. Telegraph worked with Oakland Fire Fighters to reopen three previously closed fire stations and prevent further stations from being closed using a combination of paid media and owned media to leverage a press program that generated dozens of media hits.
Telegraph created a website and social media presence to raise awareness of the potential closures. It activated the community to call on the City Administration to stop fire station closures and ensure all stations would remain open and fully staffed.
Telegraph crafted a weekly online call-to-action newsletter urging residents to write letters to the Oakland City Administration and worked with local media outlets to cover the issue.
The campaign’s clear messaging and branding highlighted the City Administration’s threats to cut the fire department’s funding.

Telegraph worked with IAFF Local 55 to stop station closures in Oakland, during the pandemic, and most recently threats of station closures during the 2025 budget cycle, both campaigns set out to stop fire station closures and prevent the decades of detrimental effects on Oakland communities.
